You cannot have a section front page without first creating its associated taxonomy title. So you could not create an “About” section front page without having first created the “About” taxonomy phrase.

The section front page content type gives you access to several visual elements, including on-page images, a unique banner image, and videos, as well as an option for downloads, which should give you the flexibility you need to create visually dynamic front pages.

Instructions

Creating a Section Front Page

  • Go to Content > Create Content > Section Front Page

  • The title you give this page should match the sub-taxonomy term you added, and the Section should be assigned to the sub-taxonomy as well

  • Enter your content into the Body field

  • In the Menu Settings section, select Provide a Menu Link

  • Provide a Description of the page (this is important for search engine optimization and for ADA compliance)

  • Assign the page to the main section of the site it will appear under, called the Parent Item

The menu link title should match the page title, since the section front pages are specifically meant to summarize the section.

  • The Weight determines where in the navigation menu the title of the page will appear (the lower the weight, the higher the term will be in the menu)

  • Now, click the URL Path Settings option below the Menu Settings link

  • This is where you change the URL from a node to a user-friendly link (you can select “Generate automatic URL alias” and Drupal will use the page title and section title to generate the URL)

Prepositions like “to” and “of” will be dropped from the URL structure. If you choose to create your own alias, the alias should show both the parent section and the child section.

Adding an Image to a Section Front Page

  • In the Images section, select Browse under Add a New File

  • Locate your file where you have saved it on your computer, and click Upload

Loading multiple images creates a gallery that opens in a light box.

  • Click Save to publish your content

Adding a Video to a Section Front Page

  • In the Video section, paste the URL of the video you would like to include in the Video URL field

  • If you’d like to include a video description, add this to the Description field

Only Vimeo and YouTube videos are supported.

  • Click Save to publish your content

Adding a File to a Section Front Page

  • In the Downloads section, select Browse under Add a New File

  • Locate your file where you have saved it on your computer, and click Upload

It is strongly recommended that you only upload .pdfs.

You can add a maximum of five files to this field. If you need to add more, you must use the Forms/Files/Downloads Page content type.
