Updating Plugins
A step-by-step guide and best practices for maintaining plugin upgrades on mcccdf.org
Download Database Backup
Before upgrading plugins, it is recommended to download a copy of the site's most recent database backup.
In the Wordpress dashboard, click on Tools > Backups.
You should see a list of recent database backups. Download the most recent one by clicking Download under the Actions column.
Perform Updates on Stage
As a best practice, it is recommended to perform updates on the stage site first:
https://z1w.192.myftpupload.com/wp-login.php
Update them one by one with verifying a successful update for each.
Once you've successfully updated/tested the plugin updates on stage, then update them one by one on the live site.
How to Update Plugins
In the Wordpress dashboard, click on Plugins on the sidebar.
You should see an Update Available option to sort plugins only by those that have an update available.
Below each individual plugin, you will see an Update Now option.
Tip:
To maintain site security and performance, check in to the dashboard weekly to perform any plugin updates needed.
Deactivating Plugins
In some cases, you might want to deactivate a plugin instead of deleting it for testing purposes or otherwise.
Navigate to the Plugins page
Beneath the title of each plugin, you will see Deactivate, click there to deactivate the plugin
To Reactivate a Plugin:
Click on the Inactive link on the Plugins page
Select Activate
